Biking at its best!

Classic Mountain Biking Moments

With many areas of interest boasting over 300 days of sunshine per year, Spain is the ultimate location to indulge in a little off-road riding. The sunny Andalusian settings are ideal for getting out on your mountain bike and discovering untold territories. However (not wanting to cause a conflict of interest!) although some of my favourite mountain biking in the world is on the singletracks of the Sierra de Castril and the Sierra de los Filabres, I’ve just recently become addicted to the thrills and oh-so-many spills of mountain biking in Switzerland.

Having decided to mo ve from my native Australia to Europe to learn French in France, I was feeling a little bit glum at the prospects of an extended winter, until I got hooked on spending my time mountain biking in Spain. But when I changed my language school from the Pyrenees town of Pau to a French school Lyon, it just didn’t seem feasible to keep on ducking over the border for my outdoor adventures. That was until I found about a mountain biking summer school Switzerland that takes eager riders into the heart of the Alps to experience the ultimate in biking exhilaration.

The best of the best? Get your rocks off on the rocky switchbacks of Las Alpujarras, and take in the breathtaking high mountain passes in southern Spain’s Sierra Nevada. Live a legend whilst taking in all that’s on offer from the Schattdorf Mountains, classic biker territory in the central alpine canton of Uri and the home of medieval figure William Tell. Finally, a personal favourite, my local track back in Australia, the Woodford-Glenbrook, a body-jolting epic through the Blue Mountains bush on extreme fire engine service roads. If you feel like taking this challenge – you’d better be prepared to climb and descend in equal measure!
