A guided mountain bike holiday with Mountainbike Spain can be tailored to suit you, whether it is week - long vacations, short weekend breaks or even single day trips. We believe the the area around the Sierra de Castril offers some of the best and most varied mountain biking in Spain, if not Europe. We have trails taking in the high passes of the area leading to what seems like the roof of the world followed by huge descents into the valley bottoms, cutting along first class singletrack in lovely spanish pine forests. The area of the Altiplano de Granada also lets us offer MTB riding of a more sedate nature, with tracks meandering through Olive and Almond groves and in and out of traditional andalucia villages. We aim to offer an all round experience with excellent biking, quality accommodation and an insight to the local spanish culture, that is now, not so common in the more tourist orientated areas.
Whatever kind of mountain bike holiday in Spain you are looking for, be it a guided break or a self guided vacation, Mountainbike Spain can offer the perfect MBT tour for you.

Type of terrain

The terrain around castril is perfect for mountain biking of all levels and abilities. Under the wheel it is a mixture of hard packed track along with some rock, stone and gravel. There is the opportunity to do monstrous climbs on good quality tracks ( we can use transport for these if necessary) and huge descents on entertaining singletrack. There are also miles and miles of less demanding off road riding in the countryside below the mountains.
Though there are maps to the area, the best trails are to be found off the map, where the local knowlege of Mountainbike Spain makes sure your time is spent on quality routes.
This is an area of few cars, great trails, lots of sun and the best mountain biking.

Mountain Biking in Spain

Anyone looking for a really great mountain biking holiday should think about heading to Spain. A large and diverse country with a range of landscapes and cultures to explore, Spain offers some great experiences to anyone who likes taking their bike over trails and tough terrain.

There are several mountain ranges in Spain which offer the kind of testing terrain and beautiful scenery that mountain bikers crave. The Pyrenees separate France from Spain and provide a great backdrop for many Spanish mountain biking adventures. In both this range and the nearby Basque Mountains, there are miles and miles of single track which goes through really memorable mountain landscapes.

The great thing about holidaying in this part of Spain is not only the great range of trails, which cater for every ability level, but also what else you can see and do. The cuisine in this northern part of Spain is superb, while there are great beaches on the coast on which you can relax. Should all the cycling get a little boring, there is usually the opportunity to participate in other kinds of adventurous activities too, whether hiking or something more intense, such as climbing or abseiling.

But it is not just in the north of Spain that you can find great places to enjoy mountain biking holidays. The south of the country, especially Andalucca, offers great weather and superb scenery too. Many of the best mountain biking venues are also within easy reach of the coastal towns of Andalucca, famous for their nightlife and great beaches, while the culinary culture of the rural areas is something to relish.

If you have a partner or friend who is accompanying you on the trip who does not share your passion for mountain biking, then it is important that there are plenty of other things to do, so that they can keep busy while you are out riding. Spain has plenty to offer in this regard, wherever you are in the country. There are historical towns in every part of Spain and some magnificent and iconic architecture in many of the cities.

If you are still wondering about which specific locations to visit then it is a good idea to speak to someone in person who has previously been to Spain to cycle. The best place to find people such as this is in your local bicycle shop.

Cyclists are, generally speaking, a friendly and enthusiastic bunch who will want to share their experiences with anyone who seems interested. If you are not lucky enough to have a cycle shop near to you, then online versions like www.bikes.org.uk can probably offer similar levels of assistance.
